people have mentioned to me when joining this tribe that they didn't really feel represented by the broader poly tribes on tribe.net. i was curious if people here thought that queers did poly differently than hets and that subset who would only have a primary relationship with the opposite sex but will have "lesser" relationships with the same sex?

Re: do queers do poly differently?
Sat, March 11, 2006 - 1:22 PMFor me, it's the difference between being in queer space and not. A pansexual space can be very friendly, open, welcoming, etc, and it's still not queer space.

Re: do queers do poly differently?
Sat, March 11, 2006 - 4:00 PMGreat call Josh!
I couldn't put my finger on it, but yes,
there is something about queerspace.
For me it's a willingness to challenge
the *structure* of how we interact,
not just the arrangement of the links in that structure.
I like my interactions to be eye-to-eye with few if any
assumptions about what the roles are.
I prefer to decide that as we go,
by choice and by communicated agreement.
Okay, back to my basement renovation project...

Re: do queers do poly differently?
Fri, May 5, 2006 - 4:26 PMI would observe (as a vast generalization) that queers play much more loosely with the gender (and sociocultural) roles and expectations and as a result their relationships (poly or otherwise) are different.
That's my experience with it, anyway. -

That's my experience as well. I see much more fluidity of roles with queers in general. I think that carries over to our relationships as well.

Re: do queers do poly differently?
Fri, May 5, 2006 - 6:10 PMI agree Josh! The label pansexual sometimes means queer space - as in the Pansexual Play Party in sf that turned into the Black Sheets party - but more often means something more like "heteroflexible, bi-sensual, and kink-friendly."
