Queer/Poly Cohousing?

Does anyone know of a cohousing project in the SF Bay Area that's queer- and poly-friendly?

Some of the one's I've seen on the West Cost have very traditional notions of what "family" means, yet others are more friendly to queer and poly family organization. Any good ones in the neighborhood?

no but i know of several in tennessee: go figure!

i just spent a year touring alt communities around the country.

one of my fave queer poly ones is pumpkin hollow. (see link on my profile) it's very sex positive. it's small and rural but they have a large following of folks who visit from cities for conferences and festivals. they are very cool folks, intellectuals and farmers, professors, and activists, and artists.

here in town you might try mariposa grove; they actually have an opening or two right now. they are located in oakland and have a tribe ad on the housing site. don't know if they're poly but they are definitely queer friendly and sex positive.

also, joani blank, a sex positive activist and author is on the board of the national cohousing association and lives in oakland at swan's way. she'd be a good one to ask. swan's way is queer friendly but expensive and not poly.

have you tried looking under www.ic.org?

they have an awesome directory and search engine which offers the option of limiting your results to queer friendly sites. also they request that communities answer questions about whether or not it's okay for members to have sex with one another. that doesn't give you a definite "are they poly or not" answer but many poly ones on that list self identify as poly.

there's also some antipoly sentiment i've seen there as well, but it's a very diverse collection of communities of all political, religious/non-religious, idealogical communities so you're bound to run into some prejudice in a few communities.

let me know if you find any poly queer cohousing here since i'm looking to create that or find it here as well!

    good luck!

Well right now I'm checking out the SiliconValleyCohousing group. The Alameda neighborhood of San Jose would be a great one for queerfolk... the Billy DeFrank Center there offers childcare, support groups, a computer lab, therapy, and many other services to the South Bay queer community.

So I'm getting together a few South Bay queer folks I know who might be interested in cohousing within a year to investigate how queer-friendly the group might be - if they're not then we might try to form our own project.

Feel free to message me if you're interested in a South Bay queer-friendly cohousing project! :)
