I have had relationships where people have come up to me and congratulated me on my relationship and how well it seems to be going and how in love I seem and how happy I seem. I've had other relationships where I was in love with someone possibly just as much and not received the same kind of feedback.
I wonder if there are some ways of being in relationships that please outsiders looking in more than other ones do?
Has anyone else experienced something like this?

To me, my primary partner is very handsome, but not conventionally 'pretty'. My girl is very pretty. I get feedback when I'm with my girl, but not with my partner.

When I was married, I always had people be surprised, even shocked, when they found out I was married. Now this happened even before I came out as bi and queer, and even when I was wearing a wedding ring every day, and even though I have a hyphenated name. Really, I always thought, what more do you want from me? But apparently my style of being a partner is just too independent than is ok, at least ok for het women I guess.
I never could figure out what people expected me to do as a married person that I was not doing, either. And I'm talking about a 20+ year relationship; it's not like I was new to being married or something.
